Privacy Policy

What we collect
ConfessIt is designed around minimal data collection. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personally identifiable information when you post a confession or interact with the platform.
IP addresses are one-way hashed using a rotating salt. The raw IP is never stored. These hashes are used solely for rate limiting and abuse prevention — they cannot be reversed to identify you.
How we use data
- Abuse prevention — hashed IPs enforce one-reaction-per-confession limits and detect spam.
- Rate limiting — to prevent automated or excessive posting.
- Trending scores — aggregated, non-identifying reaction counts determine trending content.
- Content moderation — confession text is sent to the Google Perspective API to detect harmful content before publishing.
- AI perspectives — confession text is sent to the Anthropic (Claude) API to generate an automated perspective response.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not build advertising profiles or serve targeted ads.
- We do not share data with third parties, except as described above — the Anthropic API for generating AI responses and the Google Perspective API for content moderation. Both receive only the confession text, with no identifying information attached.
- We do not use tracking cookies or cross-site trackers.
Cookies
ConfessIt uses session-only cookies strictly for core functionality (e.g. remembering dismissed banners and locally saved confessions via localStorage). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party cookie-based analytics.
Your rights
You may request removal of any confession you posted by emailing legal@confessit.in with the confession URL or content. Since confessions are anonymous, we cannot verify authorship — but we will review all removal requests in good faith.
Data retention
Confessions and their associated reactions are stored until removed — either by moderation action or upon a valid removal request. IP address hashes are rotated every 30 days, meaning older hashes are automatically replaced and cannot be linked to new activity.
Grievance Officer
For any privacy concerns, data requests, or grievances related to content on ConfessIt, contact us at contact@confessit.in. We will acknowledge your query and respond within 72 hours.
Governing law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Any disputes arising from this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.
